I want to be a prayer warrior. I want to change my lifestyle. I want to pray more often... and more importantly I don't want it to just become routine. I believe that God is going to work in and through my life by prayer.
My wonderful Granny has a passion about prayer. We used to always joke "when Granny prays things happen." I want to be just like her.
I want the enemy to fear me by the power that is in me through Jesus Christ.
The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16b
So I'm deciding to break this into a series because as I was going more indepth I kept finding more and more things. I've been encouraged and stretched in many ways while reading up about this. I did a very basic lesson on this at TNT [Teens. Need. Truth] our youth center last week. These words have just been soaking into my heart as well. I hope you feel the same. So here goes.
God hears us when we pray!
Sometimes we don't ask because we are afraid that we are unworthy or that He is too busy with "more important things" that He doesn't hear us. He does hear us, this verse is proof!
*This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 1 John 5:14
So maybe your thinking that 'I prayed to God and He didn't do what what I asked. Does this mean He rejected me?' This isn't true at all! Although God listens and is influenced by our prayers we have to understand and remember that they are a request subject to His sovereign will. A good father listens to his children but doesn't always do everything that they ask.
Some people think of our prayers like a remote control. We think God must do everything we ask when we push the buttons.
God is sovereign. He has all wisdom and knowledge. He knows the future. Although He allows Himself to be influenced by our prayers, He must do what is best for the whole world and for all time.
*And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we do not know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays [intercedes] for us with groanings that can't be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the spirit is saying, for the spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will. Romans 8: 26-27
Let us pray fervently knowing that God hears the prayers of the righteous. (Proverbs 15:29)
*Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Than you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything that we can understand. His peace will guard our hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Phillipians 4:6-7
My heart is overflowing right now. I'm a worryier. What peace Hwe will give us that EXCEEDS more than we can understand. Thank you Jesus for that!
Today I'm thankful that God hears me when I pray and for a loving Granny that shows us an extrordinary example of fervent prayer.
Be blessed!
